Southern 50 Challenge - Not Long Now

After months of preparation by the organisers and endless training walks by the teams its almost time for the big event.

I hope you are all prepared for the weekend be you a walker or a marshal. Its no secret that the current forecast shows that there will be light snow through Friday evening into Saturday morning. The current thick cloud cover in the Chilterns should keep the temperature just above freezing..
As for any challenge like this the key is to be prepared for the weather conditions you will be walking in. Weather in the British hills is very changeable so make sure you have adequate layers from base through to shell. Hat and gloves they are in your kit list wear them, a hat will stop lots of heat escaping through your head, bald or otherwise.
We will be keeping a watchful eye on the weather and road conditions and will update you if necessary.
We look forward to seeing you all at Tring School later today for what looks to be another fantastic Southern 50 Challenge. #Southern50

Southern 50 Challenge - Team Start Times

The Team Start Times are now available and have been sent out to all teams. The number of teams we can accept on the Southern 50 Challenge is largely limited by the accommodation available at the school. We set the limit at one hundred teams, with an average of four and a half walkers per team. (This has been the average over the past few years.) Teams this year are generally smaller, so we have been able to accept more teams whilst not exceeding the maximum number of walkers. The total number of teams entered this year is one hundred and twelve and they were all complete and had paid by the closing date.

Please read all event details carefully, there are changes to the rules and kit list make sure that all your team members read. You can also view and print the Joining and Walk instructions.

The routes in the Chilterns are still quite muddy as you would expect given the rain we have had. A piece of kit that you should consider is gaiters which are great for keeping the mud and water out of your boots.

Whats New! This year we are trialling a new tracking system during the event- each walker will be required to wear a tracker band which will be placed against a sensor pad at each checkpoint to monitor your progress.
There will be NO paper checkpoint tickets this year, but you MUST ensure checkpoint staff manually record your attendance at each checkpoint too.
We have made a little video for you to help explain the new checkpoint procedures- enjoy!!!!
We will be asking for your feedback on this new system during and after the event.
